Things To Do In Myrtle Beach

We here at the Coral Beach, Sea Crest and Holiday Inn-“At the Pavilion” know firsthand that the fun that Myrtle Beach has to offer is positively endless. Rain or shine, summer or fall, there is plenty to keep you and your family happy and busy all vacation long!

Headed for a day on the beach? Take the kids on a banana boat ride or see Myrtle Beach from a different angle and go parasailing at Downwind Sails or Ocean Watersports. Both are conveniently located off of Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.  You could also spend your afternoon or evening at one of the numerous parks or attractions along the Grand Strand. Or you could walk around Broadway at the Beach and enjoy dining, shopping and attractions for the whole family, including miniature golf, the IMAX theatre, Ripley’s Aquarium and the Pavilion Nostalgia Park.

For those who just want to kick back, relax and enjoy a good show, you certainly have your pick! Choose from The Carolina Opry, Alabama Theater, The Palace Theater, The Dixie Stampede or Medieval Times.

Even though we’re drawing closer to the  end of summer, there are still countless things to do and visit along the Strand, including arts and crafts shows, the upcoming, Blue Grass Festival and the Beach Ball Classic.

There are several arts and crafts festivals in the coming months including 34th Annual Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival, which will be held September 25-27 at Huntington Beach State Park near Murrells Inlet, the Dickens Christmas Show at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center November 12-15 and the 2009 Springmaid Winter Arts Festival, which will be held December 5-7.

Also, in October, the Market Common will be hosting its Second Annual Oktoberfest. This year, the German festival will take place on Saturday, October 2 and will feature The Reingold Band, food and beer selections and specials from all of the Market Common restaurants and bars and host of children's activities.

In December Myrtle Beach is home to the Beach Ball Classic where 16 of the finest boys high school basketball teams and 16 of the girls finest basketball teams from around the country will compete for a Championship Trophy.  This 10 day event has all the action a sports fan could ask for with teams for the 2009 games coming from Neveda, Texas, Wisconson, Kentucky, New York, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.  Beach Ball Classic is December 18-31.

With so much to do, Myrtle Beach promises to have everyone in your family sleeping like babies at the end of fun-filled day.

The summer season is off to a great start for the guests of Coral Beach Resort & Suites, Sea Crest Oceanfront Resort and Holiday Inn-“At the Pavilion.” The weather has been phenomenal, the beaches are as beautiful as ever and all of the great Myrtle Beach attractions are running full tilt. It looks like 2009 is going to be a great year for Grand Strand visitors.

Speaking of attractions, “Hot Summer Nights,” which is sponsored by The Oceanfront Merchants Association and the City of Myrtle Beach, is a fun-filled oceanfront experience that’s bringing a summer full of FREE music, entertainment and fireworks in Plyler Park. Located steps away from Holiday Inn-“At the Pavilion,” on Ocean Boulevard at Mr. Joe White Avenue,  Plyler Park is the home for a plethora of daily events for those who visit Myrtle Beach’s boulevard.

Every Tuesday and Saturday there are music concerts for fans of all genres, with extra concerts set for July 4 and Labor Day weekends.  Fireworks illuminate the sky every Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. from the Second Avenue Pier (weather permitting) and there is a kids’ carnival from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. every Monday through August 17.  The carnivals include bounce houses, cotton candy, bungee run, street performers, scavenger hunts and music over the public address system.

Memorable Family Vacations at Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is known for its natural beauty and wonderful resorts. It makes the opportunity for wonderful vacation memories and is family-friendly and affordable. There are three beachside resorts that stand out. The Holiday Inn recently went through multi-million dollar renovations. It is within walking distance from the Myrtle Beach convention center, Broadway On The Beach, and the Grand Mall. Coral Beach Resort was built for family fun, and includes a bowling alley, air hockey, game room, an arcade, foosball and pool tables. You can also head outdoors to one of the 10 pools, or to the lazy river ride, but these are just to name a few.

For evening entertainment there is karaoke every night, a comedy club, and a magic show. Last but never least, is the Sea Crest Oceanfront. Among the many attractions that make this the most fun-filled resort, is the amazing waterpark within the hotel. Outside of where to stay, although a vacation could be made just out of that alone, Myrtle Beach is an extraordinary place to stay. There are many, many attractions to keep you and your family entertained throughout your stay.

Myrtle Beach has some of the best golf courses in the country. The Arcadian Shores golf course, Legends Resort course, and the River Oaks golf course just start off the countless amazing courses. For some more family-friendly fun, head to Ripley's Aquarium. As fun for adults as it is for the kids, you will be amazed by the many exotic and domestic kinds of fish, reptiles and other sea life. Ripley's Aquarium boasts many new exhibits that are guaranteed to keep you riveted for hours.

If speed is your thing, be sure to check out the NASCAR speedway for mini-golf and high speed gokart racing on one of the 7 different race tracks. Start off on the Qualifier, and work your way from the off-road Thunder Road, to the high speed/tight turns of the Intimidator, or head straight for NASCAR style racing on the Competitor. And moms ride free! If you love the quirky side of life, Ripleys Believe it or Not is the place for you. Everything from weird, to interesting, to just plain freaky awaits you here. Bringing the not-exactly-ordinary to your life, prepare to leave wondering what you just saw!

For some adult time, there are many awesome night clubs, theaters and shows. Malibus Surf, Brick House Lounge, 2001-Nightlife, and Club Boca are just a few of the exciting and happening clubs in Myrtle Beach. You are guaranteed a great time at any of these. Carolina Opry and Good Vibrations will provide you with an amazing musical experience, depending on what kind of music you prefer. Carolina Opry has won the prestigious "Governors Cup" and many other awards for its musical performances, and Good Vibrations is a musical reenactment club that will have you on your toes all night long.

To wind down after an action-packed vacation such as this, heading to one of Myrtle Beachs spas is ideal. DreamScapes Massage Therapy will provide you with a relaxing, rejuvenating and calming time to get away from the rush. If you are a first timer and prefer not to head out alone, you can opt for a guided tour. Many are available here at Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach Safari Jeep Tours will make sure you see all of the best attractions and experiences to have an amazing, memorable family vacation at Myrtle Beach.

Hello from Myrtle Beach.

As you may have witnessed through various news outlets, a wildfire that began yesterday is currently affecting a section of the North Myrtle Beach area.  Tourism throughout Myrtle Beach proper and in particular, the Coral Beach Resort, Sea Crest Resort and Holiday Inn-“At the Pavilion”, have not been directly impacted by this terrible event.

The fire is currently located well west of the Intracoastal Waterway, affecting a small area of the Grand Strand, approximately 20 to 25 miles north.  To date, the wildfire has caused damage to private homes in the North Myrtle Beach area. Luckily, no major injuries have been reported and area fire and safety personnel are tirelessly working to minimize impact to homes and wooded lands in the surrounding area.

Even with the tragedy currently affecting our area, Coral Beach Resort & Suites, Sea Crest Oceanfront Resort and Holiday Inn-“At the Pavilion” are open. In addition, we are continuing to accept reservations for those looking forward to a Myrtle Beach family vacation weekend.

We are deeply saddened by the current happenings in our area and are keeping our friends and neighbors in our thoughts and prayers. As we move forward, we ask that you do the same.

Until next time, feel free to let me know your thoughts on what’s happening at any of our three resorts.

Myrtle Beach Weather: Year Round Perfection?

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the most popular ocean-side resort destination along the east coast of the United States. Millions of visitors arrive each year to view its magnificent coastal topography, visit the areas many historical and cultural attractions, and, one can’t fail to mention, play golf. Of the many reasons for the popularity of Myrtle Beach, the most important is its wonderful weather.

The area has an average daily temperature in the mid ‘70’s. Best of all, as a region with a subtropical climate, Myrtle Beach experiences mild winters. At its coldest, in January, Myrtle Beach rarely cools below the low 50’s and often the daytime highs reach the mid- 60’s. This is perfect golf weather for those who are otherwise shoveling snow and bundling up in parkas farther north. December and February are even better with an average daily temperature in high 60’s. Nights are colder, however with temperatures dipping down near freezing.

For golfers and nature lovers, spring is the best time to visit Myrtle Beach. In March and April the daytime temperature hovers around 70. During spring the nights are still cool, but pleasant. High 40’s to mid-50 degree temperatures also make this the perfect time for romantic walks along the shoreline, a patio dinner at one of the amazing seafood restaurants along the shoreline, or a visit to the nearby Intracoastal Waterway to watch the sailboats headed to Florida with their running lights glowing in the darkness.

Like all regions with subtropical climates, Myrtle Beach is humid in the summer. Average temperatures are in the high 80’s and low 90’s throughout June, July, and August. But it is a moist heat and this is the time to enjoy the cooling waters of the Atlantic Ocean. However, you will be surprised at how warm the water is in comparison to beaches in the northeast. Water temperature is in the low 80’s in July and August, begins falling in September and reaches a bracing 50 degrees in the winter months.

Spring water temperatures are in the 60’s. Even in the heat of the summer there is good news in that the evenings are cool – low 70’s is the average at night and the sea breeze will further invigorate you. For golfers, July is the wettest month, with over 5 inches of precipitation. But the sun shines more often than not in Myrtle Beach. There are, on average 215 days of sunshine in this ocean-side paradise, 150 days of overcast skies, and only 70 days of rain. Keep in mind that the hottest months are also the least expensive months to play. Greens fees fall as fast in June, July and August as the temperatures rise.

You will find frequent afternoon thunderstorms this time of year, so plan to get your golf in early in the day. Whatever your plans include in Myrtle Beach the weather is likely to cooperate. From sightseeing at nearby historical sights in the fall, golfing while your friends shiver at home in the winter, sunbathing in the heat of summer, or sailing in the spring, the weather is often Myrtle Beach’s best attraction.
